● About
Our Mission
Aunt Hazel’s is a sustainable community craft store and maker space located in North East Baltimore operating since 2023. Our mission is to redistribute and re-purpose the abundant materials our community has to offer while also allowing the community access to the materials affordably. We offer a unique ability for our customers to choose their own price, with an equity based pay structure. Additionally, our maker space is open to the public and is where we teach all of our craft programs that we offer.
● Our Mission & Philosophy
Our Principles
●
Magic with the Old
So much abundance lies in our community. With our donations we can make new magic with what would be considered trash.
●
Making Made Accessible
We believe the arts should be available to every person regardless of one's financial ability. At Aunt Hazel’s we try to combat that by allowing the customers to decide their price.
●
Artists at the Helm
Artists should have more agency in how they create. Whether that’s through the materials they use or the way they learn, Aunt Hazel’s works with artists.
●
Process Over Product
We emphasize exploration and with our curated secondhand materials can allow you to try and see what you like without breaking the bank.
Our Start
After working for the community as a lawyer Irene, Aunt Hazel’s great niece, wanted to serve her community through art. Wondering how people could get access to materials while using already existing craft supplies in circulation she decided on a secondhand craft store. Opening on October 1, 2023. The store room is modeled after Aunt Hazel’s magical treehouse with all the decorations and fixtures made by her family. Accepting craft donations of any kind, all whimsy is welcome here. Irene’s main goal was listening to the community needs and created a pay model where the customer can decide their price. Her children Bella and Violet carry her same dedication to providing affordable reclaimed craft materials and carry on the Aunt Hazel’s name. With the community donations and support we can continue to provide for each other.
